David Muchnick is a distinguished Senior Cantor with over 25 years of experience serving the Jewish community through music, spiritual leadership, and creative engagement. Originally from New York and raised in Aventura, Florida, Cantor Muchnick’s passion for music led him to the renowned high school New World School of the Arts in Miami, where he honed his vocal talents. He later earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Miami, with a focus on Vocal Performance and Judaic Studies. His academic journey continued at Florida International University, where he began earning his Master’s Degree in Music Education and Choral Conducting until entering seminary at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion-School of Sacred Music, where he earned his Master’s Degree in Sacred Music and his ordination as a Cantor in 2000.
Cantor Muchnick’s career has been defined by his ability to uplift and inspire through music, serving as Senior Cantor at esteemed congregations across the country, including Temple Chaverim in New York, Rockdale Temple in Cincinnati, Temple Judea in Coral Gables, and the Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center in his hometown of Aventura, Florida. Since 2018, he has brought his deep passion and musical artistry to Congregation B’nai Israel of Boca Raton, where he leads services with his powerful voice and skilled piano accompaniment. A devoted choral conductor, he has played a pivotal role in guiding young voices through the Boca Raton chapter of the HaZamir Choral Foundation, an international Jewish teen choir fostering connection through Jewish music.
Beyond his traditional cantorial duties, Cantor Muchnick is known for his creative and engaging approach to worship, developing innovative themed services such as Disney Shabbat and Purim Shpiels that bring joy and meaning to congregants of all ages and oversees the B’nai Mitzvah program. Adding to his arsenal of skills, Cantor Muchnick is also a certified and practicing Mohel in the South Florida area. This May, he will receive an honorary Doctorate in Sacred Music, recognizing his lifelong dedication to Jewish liturgical arts.
When not serving his congregation, Cantor Muchnick cherishes time spent traveling, attending concerts and Broadway musicals and making memories with his beloved wife, Dena, embracing every adventure life has to offer.
