We welcome you H1

Our Mission H2

CBI is a welcoming home. We inspire and connect a diverse community for generations by advancing the richness of Jewish values and traditions through the embrace of Torah (study), Avodah (work), and Gemilut Chasidim (acts of loving kindness).

Our Vision H3

CBI is a thriving and connected Jewish community, joyfully inspired by tradition and passionately committed to worship, study and repairing the world.

In 1984, four couples and one Rabbi dreamed of starting a new reform synagogue in Boca Raton, Florida. H4

They envisioned a synagogue that was about the people, the “congregation,” and one that had the best school around. Four soon became seven and the dream finally became a reality. With Mimi and Michael Abramson, Wendy and Jim Friedland, Sue and Howard Goldman, Barbara and Henry Janus, Barbara and Burton Metsch, Renee and Joel Nadel, Michelle and Joseph Wasch, and Rabbi Richard and Mindy Agler at the helm, Congregation B’nai Israel was formed and soon became the fastest-growing reform synagogue in the country.

Services and classes began at the Center for Group Counseling in Boca Raton. H5/H6

Teachers were volunteers. Books were donated. Members baked the cakes and cookies for Friday night oneg Shabbat. As the congregation grew, the space became too small, and a place of our own was needed. We broke ground in 1989 and the home of Congregation B’nai Israel was built.

We are now considered one of the landmark reform congregations in the country. Our programs are rich and varied. We strive to educate and inspire our children, youth, and adults. We encourage our members to actively participate in worship and Torah study.

This is more than learning. It is learning how to learn. The skills our children develop today will become the foundation for a lifetime. These skills include organization, focus, perseverance and problem solving. Our children become comfortable with concepts from the worlds of social studies, science, math, language and computers. They learn reading readiness, and when they’re ready, they learn to read. They participate in a hands-on science program. They travel around the globe, sometimes without leaving the classroom, other times by taking local field trips, and they farm an “Environmental Awareness Garden” adjacent to one of our playgrounds. They broaden their horizons. They leave us much more knowledgeable than when they arrived. But they don’t think of it as having handled the work of learning, they think of it as having fun.
