LIFECYCLE EVENTS Births

A Celebration of Life

When a baby is born the whole congregation celebrates, and we are honored to share in this simcha together. Our staff is readily available to discuss the details of the appropriate ritual, which will welcome your child, honor your family and connect us all in the chain of Jewish tradition. Prior to the arrival of your baby, we will discuss Hebrew names and help you plan the ceremony – either the Brit Milah ceremony (covenant of circumcision) for boys, including our recommendations for a Mohel, or the baby naming ceremony for girls.

Bris Ceremony

A Bris, or Brit Milah, is a sacred Jewish ritual that celebrates the covenant between God and the Jewish people through the circumcision of a newborn boy. This meaningful ceremony typically takes place on the eighth day of the child's life, symbolizing his entrance into the Jewish community. Led by a trained mohel, the Bris includes blessings, a naming ceremony, and joyful gathering with family and friends. At Congregation B'nai Israel, we honor this profound tradition with warmth and care, creating a welcoming environment for this milestone moment.

Brit Bat

A Brit Bat, or Covenant of the Daughter, is a beautiful and meaningful ceremony that welcomes a newborn girl into the Jewish community. This modern tradition celebrates the joy of new life, honors the covenant between God and the Jewish people, and includes the giving of the baby’s Hebrew name. The ceremony often features blessings, songs, and rituals tailored to the family’s preferences, creating a spiritual and personal celebration.
